Ragdoll cats are considered to be one of the best breeds of cats that are rather new compared to other breed of cats. Other cats can be very old breed but Ragdoll cats date back for over five decades. Records indicate that the first kitten was born in the early 1960s in California. This breed became peoples’ beloved breed and gradually many people started to keep them as their favorite pets. Ragdolls are super fluffy cats with silky, rabbit-like fur. They have bright blue eyes. Ragdolls are easy going and you can easily let a child freely play with the cat and if he wants to carry them around the house like a real rag doll as per their real name.
Ragdolls come from West Coast.
The first Ragdoll was created by Ann Baker in Riverside, California in 1963. Her aim was to create a big cat with a long coat and friendly, gentle personality. They really are very friendly and if you try to hold them when they come closer they do not resist or run away, on the contrary, they are eager and want you to hold them. They are crazy about cuddling and when you pet them.
These cats are rather large in size compared to others. Male Ragdolls weigh up to 20 pounds while females weigh 15. But is spite of their large size, they like showing and receiving affection and they simply love when you carry them around.
Ragdolls look like angels by their appearance. They have wonderful blue eyes that attracts everyone’s attention and makes them love them even more. However, there can be few Ragdolls who do not have them. You might meet some Ragdolls having blue-greenish or even gold eyes and this depends on the pattern they have. Ragdoll cats are all born with blue eyes but some of them will have a deeper case while growing older.
As for the pattern they have on their fur, they can be quite different and of different colors. Every Ragdoll is unique and individual having individual fur pattern and color. There are quite many variations of Ragdoll furs, but if we take this generally, Ragdolls have a lighter body combined with a darker face, legs, tail and ears. Ragdoll cats can be lilac, red, blue, chocolate, cream, or seal, and there are four possible patterns. You can meet some who are mitted, with white paws which looks like the cat is wearing special cattish mittens which is so cute and adorable.
The Van type has is a solid body with darker coloring on the head, ears and tail. Bicolor Ragdolls have a white chest, legs, stomach, and neck along with a face mask in the shape of an upside-down “V”.
And the third type – color point Ragdolls have darker-colored “points” on the face, ears, legs, and tail. Ragdolls can easily be intrigued by the sound of running water and unlike any other cats Ragdolls enjoy all forms of water. So be ready to see your favorite Ragdoll cat around once you turn on the shower, bath or tap.
